Day 629: Road Trip – Tennessee, Arkansas

Thursday we left Asheville and headed for Memphis.  It was a LONG ride, and by the end, we’d covered the better part of two states in two days of driving.  Exhausting!

We’d picked up some window chalk paint at Wal*Mart, so I wrote “WASHINGTON OR BUST” on the back windshield.  Unfortunately white was a bad choice on my part, and I ended up having to using it like a dabber to get the words to be even semi-readable.  It rained and snowed on our way here (Conway, AR) yesterday, so it’s all been erased now.  😦  Guess we’ll have to reapply before we head for Oklahoma!

We passed over the Blue Ridge mountains, which actually look blue from a distance – way more so than in this picture.  Absolutely gorgeous!

It was so cold that the water that usually runs down the rock-face looks like it froze in motion.

We reached Tennessee fairly quickly and literally drove from one end of the state to the other – Memphis is only about three miles from the Arkansas border.  The weather wasn’t bad, just cold, so that was a plus.

Yesterday we went to Graceland.  I’ll post more pictures later when we get J’s camera out of the car.  Flash photography was prohibited inside, and our Blackberries weren’t too skilled at taking clear indoor pictures with no flash.  Hopefully the camera pictures are better.

After Graceland we got back in the car and headed for Conway.

Fortunately it was short drive – less than three hours – as about twenty miles from our destination, it started to snow.  J decided that was a good time to let me know he’d never driven in snow before (Eep!), but we made it to the hotel fine.

Today we were supposed to go up to Missouri and visit the Red Velvet store, but unfortunately due to the weather, they’re closed. 😦  I’m disappointed, but A) it gives us a down day to relax, and B) it gives me an excuse to do another road trip!  Preferably during a more travel-friendly time of year! 😉

Tomorrow we’re heading to Oklahoma to spend Superbowl Sunday with my friend Jen’s parents.  It’ll be another short trip, which is good ’cause I’m pretty sure I’m wearing a butt print into the passenger seat. 😀
